A Daughter of the Confederacy
Very sadly, another beloved member, Ms. Shirley Primiano, passed away Tuesday Nov. 22, 2016 from her battle with cancer. Below is the obituary and service details. Her family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Ms. Shirley Day Primiano was born in South Boston on April 10, 1939 and died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, in Danville.
She was a retired educator and lectured at Danville Community College: adjunct faculty member for many years; served on several curriculum advisory committees; and several re-accreditation committees.
Primiano was a member of the DCC Educational Foundation Board for more than 20 years: board chair; vice chair in the late 1990s; executive committee; DCC Knights Baseball Executive Committee; endowed scholarship in the name of Dr. Shirley D. Primiano Endowed Scholarship; major gifts campaign executive committee; and numerous other committees.
She was elected to Danville City Council (10 years); Danville Development Council (DDC)—economic development—served on the board; vice chair; and chair and numerous other civic organizations.
She was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, at 11 a.m. at Swansonville United Methodist Church in Dry Fork.
